Book Review: The Hunting Wives

The Hunting Wives by May Cobb gives “girls just want to have fun” a whole new meaning! Imagine Mean Girls grew up, and you have The Hunting Wives. All of the editorial reviews for this book say that it is Mean Girls mixed with Big Little Lies with hints of The Stepford Wives and twists of Desperate Housewives…and I couldn’t have said it better myself. This book is the perfect blend of murder, betrayal, obsession, and scandal.

After giving up her dream career in Chicago and settling down for a quiet life in Texas with her husband and son, Sophie O’Neill finds herself bored with her now monotonous life and wants more.

Meet Margot Banks: an enviable socialite whose wild, sexy life is exactly what Sophie wants…or so she thinks.

Quickly, Margot takes Sophie under her dangerous wing and opens the door to late night partying, sex, drugs, and a small, secret clique called The Hunting Wives. Sophie realizes she’s in over her head, but Margot and her lifestyle are intoxicating and Sophie is nothing but a helpless addict looking for her next fix.

However, when the body of a teenage girl is found in the woods, Sophie is snapped back to reality, only to find that she’s completely lost control of her life. Is it too late to salvage her family, her friends, and her freedom?

Like Sophie, I found this story to be intoxicating. Often times, I found myself laughing because the women in this story reminded me of some of the moms my family knew growing up…restless moms with secrets, bottomless bank accounts, and far too much time on their hands.

Even though Sophie wasn’t the most likeable character in the world, that didn’t take away from story. Margot was a fascinating character with a IDGAF attitude, and her little minions were there to do her bidding.

Add this book to your summer book list. I promise it will not disappoint!
